// global information technology solutions

With changes in technology taking place almost on a daily basis, building a productive and cost-effective Information Technology (IT) infrastructure has become increasingly challenging. The majority of small and medium enterprises are not aware of how Information Technology can deliver a solid Return on Investment (ROI) by increasing staff productivity while still maintaining a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). At NTC Global we have the experience and technical know-how to implement what we call a Global Information Technology Solution: We take into consideration your overall business needs and develop a global IT solution around them.

Our product is based on the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003/2007 platform (SBS2003/2007) - a low cost, easy-to-manage and feature-rich server operating system that puts functionality previously only enjoyed by large corporations into the hands of small businesses. Up to 75 users can be supported, without the administrative hassles. We are convinced that we offer the best product on the market - but don't take our word for it:

  • Read this independent review on Microsoft Small Business Server from PC Mag

  • To learn more about why we have chosen the Microsoft platform over Linux and other competitors, see this article.

  • View the Microsoft Small Business Server case study video (Note: this requires a high-speed internet connection to stream. If you connect to the internet using a dial-up modem, please right click on the link and choose the option to download the file locally before playing it.)

Our Global Information Technology Solution offers you the following benefits:

  • An internal company web site (intranet) that allows you to share information, such as documents, faxes, presentations, proposals, photos and events with your co-workers.

  • Communicate securely and effectively and keep track of meetings, events and appointments by using Microsoft Outlook, integrated with Microsoft Exchange. Electronically invite co-workers to attend a meeting and Outlook will remind them automatically when the meeting is about to start. You can also use the Vacation Calendar on your company's internal Web site to track staff holidays.

  • Check your e-mail or access company files on any network, anywhere in the world via a secure connection to your company network from your laptop or an internet terminal.

  • Send and receive faxes while working at your computer.

  • Robust, managed backup solution to ensure that your critical data is secured and recoverable in the event of theft, fire or hardware failure.

  • Data security and encryption so that you know that your data can only be accessed by those who should be able to access it

  • A stable, tested and tried IT platform for your business which translates into maximum uptime and productivity and minimum data loss

Some of the other advantages of migrating to Small Business Server 2003:

  • Return on Investment  - Solution payback on average within 8 months.

  • Easy upgrade and migration path - Existing Windows-based systems can easily be migrated with minimal disruption or data loss

  • Remote administration - Save on IT administration costs because consultants no longer need to be on site to administer the server.

// networks - wired and wireless

Network technology has revolutionised 21st century communications but many businesses have not yet taken advantage of the consequent cost-savings and improvements in worker productivity simply because they are unaware of what can be done.

wireless networks

  • Secure Wireless Local Area Networks:
    Wireless LAN's have now reached speeds comparable to wired UTP networks and WLAN security has matured to the point where a properly configured network is as secure as a traditional LAN. WLANs offer the following benefits:

  • Older facilities can be networked without having to lay expensive cabling.

  • The network is no longer limited by the office layout and vice versa. Workers can move around the office without losing connectivity to their corporate data.

  • Meetings take on a whole new character - no longer do you need to go looking for a missing document or try and remember what was written in that e-mail: with a laptop or PDA, you can access all your company data and e-mails directly in the meeting room.

To find out more on the savings that a WLAN implementation can bring to your company, check out this document.

  • Managed Wi-Fi hotspots: Business people today expect to be able to check their corporate e-mail and data when they are on the road or in the air. Wireless hotspots are proliferating at an explosive rate. In-Stat/MDR predicts there will be some 200,000 hotspots around the globe by 2008, up from 43,850 last year. Don't miss the wireless revolution - improve the attraction of your facility and generate additional revenue by providing this service to your customers.

wired networks

From 100Mbps to the Gigabit standard (1000Mbps) NTC Global offers a comprehensive consulting, supply and installation service for all your wired networking requirements. Our experience ranges from corporate networks to networks covering entire residential estates.

// voip pabx telephony solutions

In conjunction with our partners, BizCall (part of the Vox Telecom group), we are pleased to announce the launch of a full range of VoIP telephony products in the PABX space. Voice over IP (VoIP) technology is opening a new world of communications to the business community. Inter-branch communication can now be done at a fraction of the cost of routing calls via Telkom or the cellular networks. Calls to destinations such as Europe, Australia and the USA can be made for as little as R0.15* per minute. VoIP technology routes voice calls as data over the internet, thus avoiding the premium charged on international and national phone calls that usually get carried by the traditional telecommunications network. Furthermore, our solutions offer an integrated and highly customizable PABX that leverages your existing network topology, be that wireless or wired! That means no new cables need to be laid for your telephone system, saving your business money and time.
* Exact call charges subject to the exchange rate and service provider.

Video Conferencing: It is now possible to have face-to-face meetings with people across the globe without leaving your office. Allow us to introduce you to the telecommunication medium of tomorrow on a budget that small businesses can afford!

// power management solutions (ups)

NTC Global is a leading supplier of UPS equipment in the Western Cape region. Our experience and expertise in this field has set us apart from the competition. Below is a wealth of information that will help you make an informed decision when it comes to buying a UPS, but please do not hesitate to contact one of our sales staff should you have any further questions:

  • What is a UPS?
    UPS is an abbreviation for "Uninterruptible Power Supply". Is short, a UPS provides a clean, uninterrupted power supply to sensitive equipment such as computers, sound equipment, projectors, TVs, Hi-Fis etc. The amount of backup time that a UPS can deliver depends on its KVA (power) rating, the size of its battery(s) and the load on the UPS.

  • What are the different kinds of UPS's?
     >> Offline (also known as Passive Standby) -
    The off-line UPS is cheapest and presents a delay in its switching time. When mains fails, the UPS takes typically 16 milliseconds to detect the lack of power and to connect the battery. This may seem like a small delay, but it can affect some sensitive equipment and some PCs can even do a "hard" reset in this time. This UPS provides limited or no protection from power spikes (surges when power comes back on, lightning etc).

    >> Line Interactive
    - This type of UPS offers a shorter interruption, typically 6ms, and has an embedded voltage stabilizer, although it does not regulate the frequency of the voltage. They cost more than the offline UPS and provide a greater degree of protection from spikes, sags and blackouts.

    >> On-line (also known as Double Conversion) -
    In this equipment there is no type of power interruption when the mains fails and it also provides full protection against spikes and sags in the supply. The mains supply is rectified to DC and used to load a battery. The batteries' output is inverted and used to supply the load with power. The UPS output is thus completely isolated from the input. With that, any problem in the mains power network (fluctuations, noise, spikes etc) will never affect the equipment connected to the output of this type of UPS. It allows for very wide input-voltage tolerances and precise regulation of the output voltage.

  • How long will a UPS provide backup power?
    An offline UPS typically is a small unit that provides no more than 5 - 15 minutes of backup time. It cannot be expanded to allow for longer backups. Line-interactive units usually allow for expansion through the addition of extension batteries and can provide backup times of as long as 2 hours, depending on the load. On-line UPS systems differ greatly in load size rating, backup time and thus also cost, depending on your requirements. Backup times can be from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the configuration. To determine a more precise backup time, one needs to do a calculation based on the output load of the UPS and this is obviously determined by the exact equipment that the customer connects to the UPS.

  • Why choose a UPS over a generator?
    - UPS’s are cleaner, quieter and more reliable than generators
    - They don’t require refueling
    - They don’t require additional safety equipment
    - They can be installed quickly without any physical changes to the premises i.e. ventilation shafts, firedoors etc
    - They provide “clean” power (a generator will damage PCs and other sensitive equipment)
    - Most are easily upgradeable as your needs grow (not applicable to all advertised models)
